Writers Wanted

If you’re interested in contributing to DR, you’re in luck because we’re actually looking for new writers. Let’s start of by clarifying that this is not a paying position. However, when we start making money, you just might too. We’re not a stingy bunch. Unless we’re paid in food, in which case, iCon will eat it all.

Requirements:

1. You have to love Africa.

It helps to be African or live/have lived in some part of it. It’s not racist in anyway. Frankly, we don’t care if you’re blue with purple polka dots. More power to you. Our aim is to give Africa a voice in today’s very Eurocentrically saturated media.

2. You have to speak English.

…and well, might I add. The more linguistically nimble you are, the more likely we are to embrace you. Again, nothing against any other language you may speak, but English seems to be the most widespread among our readers so we’re going to try and start there. We hope to start a French version of DR later so if you think you know somebody, let us know them too.

3. It helps if you’re widely traveled.

Or at least are very aware of what goes on in the World. Not a requirement, but it narrows down the number of times we have to edit out potential subjective statements.

4. You have to be consistent

Just because this isn’t a paying position yet, doesn’t mean we don’t have standards. Readers need to get to know you, you need to keep your pencil sharp, everybody benefits. Minimum of one quality post per week and you stay on. Not much, right?

And that’s about it.

If you think you’d fit in: diasporadical@gmail.com. Send us a line and 2 writing samples and we’ll gladly consider.
